This thing is so incredibly awesome, and was awarded in 1895! Can you imagine the Ymca handing out sterling silver medals to your kids these days? I am just so fascinated with this piece, and I learned an awful lot about the Ymca while researching it. The back of the medal says “Second” and has the initials of the person who it was awarded to on the back. It’s also signed Sterling with the jewelry maker Robert Stoll and his address in New York. C-clasp pin, it’s in great condition for being 130 years old! The last two pictures are just interesting YMCA advertising I found, not included. The YMCA was founded in London on 6 June 1844 by George Williams as the Young Men's Christian Association. The organization's stated aim is to put Christian values into practice by developing a healthy body, mind, and spirit. The first YMCA in the United States opened on December 29, 1851 in Boston, Massachusetts. The YMCA was founded by Thomas Valentine Sullivan, a retired sea captain and missionary.
