Florida license plates for Combat Wounded Veterans who have received the Purple Heart medal The plates feature the Purple Heart medal emblem on the left. They have the word "FLORIDA" at the top and "COMBAT WOUNDED VETERAN" at the bottom. The plates include registration stickers indicating the month and year of expiration, such as 09-09 and 09-13. The numbers on the plates, like 20182 and 48082, are unique identifiers. These plates are issued to veterans who have been wounded in combat and awarded the Purple Heart. STORY ABOUT THE VETERAN/PERSON The license plates were acquired from a family who had an estate sale. The woman’s grandfather was a World War II veteran pilot who flew and evacuated soldiers before the atomic bomb was dropped on Japan. He flew and evacuated soldiers from the Saigon region.
