Antique 18th or 19th Century Seven Sages Bamboo Carved Incense Holder Perfumier Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove Incense holder on each side of top and bottom Carved with openings " Incense Holder is a Qing dynasty object from the 18th or 19th century. The incense holder is cylindrical in shape and is meticulously carved and pierced. It has a flat base at one end and is carved all around in multiple levels of relief. The Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove were a group of Chinese scholars, writers, and musicians from the third century CE. They banded together to escape the dangers of the political world. Some of the sages wrote poems criticizing the court and administration, and wrote Daoist-influenced literature.
